Started in the 15. Century, “El Rastro” is the oldest and the most traditional market and the most visited of Madrid. Every Sunday morning thousands of stands offer second-hand clothes, but also new fashion items, hand-made jewellery, decorative items, souvenirs of Madrid, printed T-Shirt’s, vintage designer clothes, books and art. The market takes place on many streets, a neighbourhood which is already called “Rastro”. Some of the market streets are divided into themes, like the “street of arts” Calle de San Cayetano, where you can buy different paintings, sculptures and other types of art.
The atmosphere of this market is very lively and multi-cultural, as many tourists from all around the world come here every week, for shopping and to listen to some of the traditional life bands playing their music there. Additionally you can enjoy a glass of sangria while eating some delicious tapas.
